CAPE LOOKOUT LIGHTHOUSE GETS A NEW COAT OF PAINT

In early October 2004, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse got a brand new set of black and white checkers!

The Friends of Cape Lookout and OBLHS have committed to helping the National Park Service with the restoration, and the first step, the painting, is now complete. Significant restoration work remains, including structural repairs to the steps, the galleries and the lantern.

Contributing to the paint project were Lowe's Home Improvement and paint manufacturer Valspar which furnished 125 gallons of Lowe's American Tradition National Trust paint and all the supplies.

On Oct. 23, OBLHS members attending the Keepers Weekend were treated to a climb of the freshly painted lighthouse!
